NETHERLANDS :- US Approves $34Mln Sale of Hellfire Missiles to Netherlands ::
The US Department of State approved the possible sale of Hellfire missiles to the Netherlands for $34 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a press release on Tuesday.

The original foreign military sale (FMS), valued at $26.3 million, included AGM-114R Hellfire II missiles and another 24 Captive Air Training Missiles, along with support elements.

"The Government of the Netherlands has requested the possible sale of an additional 70 AGM-114R Hellfire II missiles to a previously implemented case for Hellfire missiles," the release stated.

As a result of the additional 70 missiles requested by the Netherlands, the FMS now includes a total of 250 AGM-114R Hellfire II Missiles, the release said. Spare parts, logistics support, software upgrades and training are included in the sale.

The proposed sale will improve the Netherlands’ capability to meet current and future threats and will be employed on the country's’ Apache helicopters, according to the DSCA. Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor.

The Hellfire is a precision strike missile that can be used to strike armored vehicles, fixed ground targets and other high-value targets, such as terrorists, according to published reports.
