Lockheed Martin Gets Hundreds of Millions to Supply More F-35 Fighter
Lockheed Martin won more than $427 million for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and foreign military sales (FMS), the Department of Defense said in a press release.
"Lockheed Martin Corp., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Fort Worth, Texas, is being awarded not-to-exceed $427,088,637 for… procurement of ancillary military equipment and pilot flight equipment for low rate initial production Lot 11 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft," the release said Monday.
The new aircraft will also be produced for sale to other countries under the foreign military sales (FMS), the Defense Department said.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has projected the total cost of the F-35 program to come to at least $1.4 trillion and has warned that it may rise further, making it the most expensive aircraft and military program of all time.
